My research is at the intersection of linguistics and education: focusing on crisis discourses, ‘youth’ language, and multimodal linguistic practices in digital contexts. I specialise in corpus-assisted discourse analysis (CADS) and have significant experience compiling and analysing both spoken and written corpora. Through my work, I have investigated how language reflects and shapes social realities in times of crisis, particularly among youth.
I hold a PhD in Language Studies (ELT) from METU, and I am a former postdoctoral research fellow at the Centre for Language, Discourse and Communication at King’s College London, UK.
For my PhD, I compiled the first youth language corpus of contemporary spoken Turkish. I have designed, led, and contributed to various large-scale or nationwide research projects funded by government agencies, research/higher education institutions. Find the details of those works here.
I believe academia should foster collaboration, promote equal opportunities, and produce knowledge that benefits society. Guided by this vision, I co-founded the Discourse and Corpus Research Group (DISCORE) in 2019. Since then, I have co-convened DISCORE with the aim of creating a platform for early career researchers based in Türkiye to connect and collaborate with both local and international scholars.
